Epsom Salts (Magnesium Sulphate) Water Soluble Fertiliser
The fastest, cheapest fix for yellowing leaves caused by magnesium deficiency. Agricultural grade Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) supply two nutrients plants cannot do without: magnesium, the atom at the centre of every chlorophyll molecule, and sulphur, which plants need to build proteins. It dissolves completely, works in every growing system and contains no nitrogen, phosphorus or potassium, so you can correct magnesium without throwing the rest of your feed out of balance.
Guaranteed analysis
| Element | g/kg | % |
|---|---|---|
| Magnesium (Mg) | 97 g/kg | 9.7% |
| Sulphur (S) | 130 g/kg | 13% |
What it does for your plants
- Deep green, hard working leaves: magnesium sits at the heart of chlorophyll, so it directly powers photosynthesis.
- Better use of your other nutrients: magnesium activates many of the enzymes plants use to grow and helps move phosphorus around the plant.
- Sulphur for protein, flavour and aroma: sulphur is needed to build proteins and chlorophyll and contributes to the compounds behind flavour and smell.
- Nothing you do not want: no N, P or K and no calcium, so you can add magnesium without pushing growth or changing your NPK ratio.
Signs your plants need magnesium
- Yellowing between the leaf veins while the veins themselves stay green
- Symptoms start on the older, lower leaves and move up the plant
- Leaf edges curling upward, sometimes with reddish or purple tints
- Common in coco coir, under strong LED lighting, with RO or soft water, and in heavy feeding crops such as tomatoes, peppers, roses and cannabis
How to use
Dissolve fully in water before use and always measure EC. For reference, every 1 gram per litre of water adds 97 ppm magnesium and 130 ppm sulphur, and 0.5 g per litre adds about 49 ppm magnesium and 65 ppm sulphur. Adjust your dose to your crop, growth stage and base nutrient.
- Hydroponics and coco: add to your reservoir, then adjust pH.
- Soil, pots and garden beds: dissolve and water in as a drench, or mix into the soil and water well.
- Foliar spray: can be applied to the leaves as a dilute spray for a quick correction. Spray in the cool of the day or with lights dimmed.
Important mixing rule
Never mix Epsom salts in concentrated form with calcium products such as calcium nitrate or calcium magnesium nitrate. The sulphate reacts with calcium and drops out of solution as a solid. In a two tank system Epsom salts go in Tank B, away from the calcium. Once diluted in your final reservoir it is perfectly fine to combine.
